On March 16, 2017, Dr. Stephen D’Amico, nursing home specialist at Life Care Center of Hickory Woods in Antioch, Tennessee, was named Physician of the Year for Life Care Centers of America’s Eastern Division.
The award was given during a Life Care ceremony held at the American Medical Directors Association Annual Conference in Phoenix, Arizona. Five other division award winners, a company-wide winner and a Heritage Award winner were also honored.
D’Amico has been the nursing home specialist at Life Care Center of Hickory Woods since February 2015.
“Dr. D’Amico has embraced the teamwork attitude, helped bridge gaps between departments, streamline medical costs and most importantly aided in successfully graduating more than 1,000 patients back to their prior level of function,” said Ashley Borja, executive director.
D’Amico participates in grand rounds, wound care rounds, in-services and staff meetings, communicating with residents, their family members, associates and other health care professionals. He takes the time to have extensive conversations with patients and their families to ease their fears and make sure they understand their diagnosis and care.
“Having him in house has improved our customer service and our response time to medical needs,” Borja added.
“Physicians play a pivotal role in the care of our residents,” said Beecher Hunter, Life Care president, “and we are proud to honor those who stand out in their commitment and their compassion to ensure the health and well-being of those entrusted to them.”
